Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is a captivating story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den gambling is against the law. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent area, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of most border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the common tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel building that features a number of luxuries on top of the casino, which contains 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 tables.
